Visit Michael Poast’s sculptures along our malls at 143rd and 148th Streets, launching May 2nd. This is part of Harlem’s first large-scale sculpture exhibition, Harlem Sculpture Gardens, organized by West Harlem Art Fund and NY Artist Equity Association.
“Logos” is located at the 143rd Street mall. The top of the piece is constructed of rebar in circular configurations, reflecting the abstract thought patterns of our knowledge, and symbolizes its Greek title, which means “Logic.”
“Madonna” is located at 148th Street mall. Historically, it reminds one of figurative medieval sculptures, even though constructed of abstract shapes. It is the only sculpture of the 5 that is painted a specific color, blue. Blue is considered a spiritual color and the color emphasized in medieval figurative works.
Make sure to visit these sculptures before October 30th!
