Ten large-scale sculptures of endangered New York City birds on the Broadway malls, 64th Street to 157th Street

Nicolas Holiber Birds on Broadway sculpture installation

The Broadway Mall Association’s twelfth public art exhibition, Nicolas Holiber: Birds on Broadway, The Audubon Sculpture Project, opened on Broadway in May 2019 and remained on view through August 2020. Presented in partnership with NYC Parks and the New York City Audubon Society, the installation featured ten large-scale sculptures created by Brooklyn-based artist Nicolas Holiber of New York City birds that are in danger of extinction due to climate change. The sculptures, displayed on the Broadway malls between 64th and 157th Streets, were fabricated from reclaimed wood that had been left untreated to allow the city’s natural forces to affect its surfaces, highlighting the environmental challenges faced by each bird species. Holiber is the youngest artist to have a solo exhibition presented by the Broadway Mall Association.
